Reliance Antiques is a family business that was started in 1980 by Doug and Teresa Harbo in Berkeley, California. Originally Reliance Appliance, the store specialized in antique and classic gas stoves, especially restored Wedgewood and O’Keefe Merritts. The stoves are completely rebuilt with new thermostats and thermocouples, modern wiring, replated chrome, reporcelained grates etc. The business was expanded in the early nineties to include farm tables- assembled to order in our on-site workshop. We also feature replicas ( coffee and sofa tables, benches, chairs, entertainment and computer centers) made of reclaimed antique English and Eastern European pine. Soon after this innovation, original country pine antiques were added to the line. These are gathered mostly from Austria, the eastern part of Germany, the Czech and Slovak Republics, Hungary and Romania. Reliance has been chosen as "Best of the Bay Area" by San Francisco Magazine.  The ninteenth century pine antiques are personally selected and directly imported from Europe by the owner. Reliance does not order in absentee through agents or middlemen. Every farm table and antique is inspected abroad before being imported. This assures a continuous supply of quality materials and antiques that include armoires, glass front buffets, nightstands, chests of drawers, sideboards, corner cabinets, glass display cases, etc. Directly importing in the largest allowable containers, Reliance passes on the savings on costs to customers in the form of the lowest possible prices for top quality merchandise. The custom made farm tables and replicas from antique pine are made to order from antique English and Russian pine- virgin northern growth from 18th and 19th century buildings which have been demolished. The tables are custom assembled in less than one week. There is a large selection of tops and leg styles, and alterations are available at minimal cost. All seven of the Harbo family members have worked at Reliance over the years as well as two full time employees with a combined experience of over 15 years. Quality and reliability is our name.
